Maternity swimwear – made especially for pregnant women

When summer is around the corner all thoughts turn to summer wear. Colourful skirts, blouse, bandanas, sunglasses and yes, swim wear. It could be one piece, two pieces or even maternity swimwear. The soon to be mum need not be left out of the fun. The maternity swimwear in colourful combinations is a definite item for her wardrobe.

The tankini is a very modest style of burkinis maternity swimwear.  It is so named because the top is styled as a tank top and the length extends to the waist and at times below. The bottom of the maternity swimwear is a bikini bottom that is cut to fit under the tummy. Care should be taken when choosing the tankini as maternity swimwear, making sure that the top covers the whole tummy.  It is very unsightly when the tummy bulge is seen.

The baby doll type of maternity swimwear has the top styled in an empire line with the skirt flowing from under the bust line. This allows the maternity swimwear to leave an allowance for the growing tummy line. The bottom too need not be cut bikini style but could be used to cover up the whole tummy giving the body a good line.

It is essential that the maternity swimwear is comfortable. The area over the tummy should not be stretched but should be loose enough for it to be comfortable and leave allowance for the tummy to get bigger as the pregnancy advances. The maternity swimwear should also have good support for the top and should be held up by strong but yet swanky straps.

Maternity swimwear should not give one the impression that it is dull and lifeless. Maternity swimwear is available in smartly piped outfits, colourful prints, and interesting styles. For the daring there is even a bikini that has the bottom well cut below the tummy line.

To be adventurous, one could buy a collection of mix and match maternity swimwear. Colorful solids or printed tops with alternate bikini bottoms or shorts will make stylish maternity swim wear.
